Writing Contest

In the spirit of a true contest, we need to apply a deadline of sorts for those who wish to participate (that's not to say stories won't be accepted after the date, but they won't be included in this initial challenge). To give people adequate time to plan, plot, and write, the deadline for the challenge will be set as March 31st, 2003 at midnight your time. A graphical prize (much like the XIPPYs or Swollen Buds) will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places prizes with two honourable mentions. Should anyone like to volunteer their graphical arts towards this end, I'd be happy to hear from you, otherwise, my dear bards, you'll be the recipient of my well-intentioned artistic talents *g*. To make this process as easy, efficient and painless as possible, please follow the guidelines as outlined below:

  1. Stories must take place in the time frame following after the XWP Series Finale: Friends in Need II. So. Eve. Eve, Eve, Eve. Enjoyed by some, reviled as a weak, whiny dolt by others (Like a bad trip, I'm still having flashbacks to "In the name of Eli and all the powers of Heaven..." *shudder*). It takes a rare talent to make Eve a strong and interesting character. Which is what I'm challenging you to do. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to tell us how Eve found out about her mother's death and her reaction to the news. Gabrielle can be used, as can any other character (living or dead), but Eve should clearly be the main protagonist.

  2. Stories must include: Author's Name (or pen name), the Title, an Email address, and any required disclaimers that are pertinent to your work. Credit to RenPics, etc., violence, sexually explicit content, and any other scenes which some may find disturbing should be included. If you need some ideas as to the types of disclaimers should be included, take a look at these standards that have been drawn up by Wildcat, a fellow Xenite.

  3. Please proof your work for spelling and grammar. Request that someone beta read your work if you're not comfortable with the ins and outs of the evil that is punctuation. If you're looking for some writing hints and tips, some of which are related directly to XWP, check out the General Articles section over at Lunacy's Fan Fiction Review site. It's excellent, and I highly recommend it for beginners and pros alike.

  4. The story must be sent as an attachment to muse@futuremuse.com in one of these formats: HTML, MS Word or RTF.

  5. Submissions need to be received by March 31st, 2003 in order to be considered eligible for the contest. Winners will be notified via email three weeks after the closing of the contest to allow for voting. The winners' names will also be posted to the site on the Home page.

  6. There is no # 6.

  7. If you have any questions or comments, please email me at muse@futuremuse.com. Thank you.

FIN Fanfic

  1. This site "specialises" so to speak in the genre FIN/Post-FIN which translates to stories set around, or proceding after, the episodes Friend In Need I & II. All the usual Xena Physics apply so bring Xena back, send Gabs off on her own, have our favourite Warrior and Battling Bard travel the world as is, but please note that Uber and Beyond Uber works will not be accepted. There are many, many other lovely sites out there that will meet your needs better.

  2. Stories must include: Author's Name (or pen name), the Title, an Email address, and any required disclaimers that are pertinent to your work. Credit to RenPics, etc., violence, sexually explicit content (please specify Gen or Alt), and any other scenes which some may find disturbing should be included. If you need some ideas as to the types of disclaimers should be included, take a look at these standards that have been drawn up by Wildcat, a fellow Xenite.

  2. If you are caught passing off someone else's work as your own, you will be sliced, diced, and julien-fried, and burned in effigy throughout the Xenaverse. Scalawags beware!

  3. The art must be sent as an attachment to muse@futuremuse.com in one of these formats: .gif or .jpg. Please do your best to keep file sizes to a minimum. Thank you.
