I demand that you read this story, if only to be thankful that your life isn’t as screwed up and confusing as the lives of these characters.

Drew Bailey is a 37 year old small town sheriff, whose best friend since high school is named Kate. Kate’s husband, Paul, was killed in an accident, leaving her and her two daughters Natalie and Lola. Drew has been involved in the lives of the girls from day one, and is like an auntie to them, until.....(insert dramatic music)

Lola, like the Lolita of Nabokov’s novel, whom the author credits the girls name for, is in love with Drew, even though she is only 17. She is a woman-child who is sure she knows what she wants. After coming on to Drew, it becomes a game of seduction, of which the older woman is powerless to resist. I was begging her to resist....(insert scream effect)

So our story really gets moving once the girl turns 18, that’s when Drew and Lola decide to pursue a relationship, one in which Kate alternately approves, then accuses her best friend of taking advantage of the poor lass. They date anyways, then Lola goes off to school, the relationship fizzles, and before anyone can nurse a broken heart, Drew and Kate start bumpin’ uglies. Guess Drew wanted to see who was better. Gasp!

I can’t really find fault in the writing style, it was a lot cliché, as well as grammar and spelling problems, but nothing that a few betas couldn’t fix. I think it really was just the subject matter. The thing of it is that there seems to be no one that stops and says, 'Hey, my mom slept with my girlfriend,' or, ‘I cannot believe I am sleeping with my best friend/daughter’s ex-girlfriend,' or even, 'Hey, the broad is 19 years older than you!' I would think in this sort of situation, there would be a lot more problems associated with the couple than where they are going to make out.

I couldn’t stop reading, if only to see who was going to sleep with who next. Take a look and let me know if it’s just me being a prude. Hanging out with Tish, the ex-nun, will do that to a girl.
