Caution: Under Construction By Vertigo (Uber, Finished)
While I didn’t exactly mince words when I last reviewed Vertigo’s work, I feel compelled to offer the same honesty, however blunt, about her latest piece. This story is, in a word, kick ass. See, I said it. From the Uber G Sheridan Landers; butch construction worker, cad extraordinairre, club slut and proud of it, to the Uber X; Keefer Gibson, a woman in an unhappy, unsatisfying relationship who discovers that a certain blonde someone really lights her fire. Nothing about this story reeks of un-freshness, and I find that I look forward to the updates. To see the two leads, both of them trying to hold back the way they feel, interact with one another is a finely tuned exercise in sexual tension. Little touches, looks, all come to mean so much in the lives of these two women, both of them afraid of wanting each other, but unwilling to break their connection. And an Uber G that is all protective of Uber X, awwww, it’s just so damned cute. The characters are exciting, the dialogue witty and fun, and I can’t help but praise it. It is truly good stuff, and I cannot say how glad I am that Vertigo left behind ol’ Reece and Whatshername. Zeen
Persistence By Alex Tryst (Not Uber, Finished)
I demand that you read this story, if only to be thankful that your life isn’t as screwed up and confusing as the lives of these characters. Drew Bailey is a 37 year old small town sheriff, whose best friend since high school is named Kate. Kate’s husband, Paul, was killed in an accident, leaving her and her two daughters Natalie and Lola. Drew has been involved in the lives of the girls from day one, and is like an auntie to them, until.....(insert dramatic music) Lola, like the Lolita of Nabokov’s novel, whom the author credits the girls name for, is in love with Drew, even though she is only 17. She is a woman-child who is sure she knows what she wants. After coming on to Drew, it becomes a game of seduction, of which the older woman is powerless to resist. I was begging her to resist....(insert scream effect) So our story really gets moving once the girl turns 18, that’s when Drew and Lola decide to pursue a relationship, one in which Kate alternately approves, then accuses her best friend of taking advantage of the poor lass. They date anyways, then Lola goes off to school, the relationship fizzles, and before anyone can nurse a broken heart, Drew and Kate start bumpin’ uglies. Guess Drew wanted to see who was better. Gasp! It just goes on from there folks, playing musical beds, morals being thrown out the window, a jumbled mass of people who can’t decide who they are going to be with. It was a regular Peyton Place....an overabundance of lesbian activities. (Moms who sleep with their daughters' ex-girlfriends, who also happen to be their best friend- on the next Jenny Jones.) I can’t really find fault in the writing style, it was a lot cliché, as well as grammar and spelling problems, but nothing that a few betas couldn’t fix. I think it really was just the subject matter. The thing of it is that there seems to be no one that stops and says, 'Hey, my mom slept with my girlfriend,' or, ‘I cannot believe I am sleeping with my best friend/daughter’s ex-girlfriend,' or even, 'Hey, the broad is 19 years older than you!' I would think in this sort of situation, there would be a lot more problems associated with the couple than where they are going to make out. I couldn’t stop reading, if only to see who was going to sleep with who next. Take a look and let me know if it’s just me being a prude. Hanging out with Tish, the ex-nun, will do that to a girl. Amazon Truths By Shana and Kye A long time fan of the PWP, it isn’t often that you find an author who can pull a story off with a certain amount of freshness. There has to be more to it than just the rutting, more than who puts what where, and how, because there are just so many tales in this genre to wade through in order to find the good ones. Ah, but this ‘Plot? What Plot?’ series has two authors, and, well, two is always better than one. I have been following this series since Scroll One, and found that the latest installment, ‘Amazon Truths,’ left this customer more than...satisfied. The scroll takes place when Gabs and Xena meet up with Ephiny and a whole slew of emotions rise up for both of our girls, seeing as how both of them have a confession to make about the night that Gabrielle was crowned an Amazon princess. Any couple that can solve a few things with a little graphic girl on girl action is a-ok with me, and the authors remain true to the essence of what these characters are; lovers, but first and foremost, friends who can work out any problem with a little talking. Just a little, this is a PWP after all! My only complaint has to be that all of the scrolls start with Xena’s take on the action, and then Gabrielle’s, so by the time you do get through Xena’s report, you’re not entirely sure Gabs has much different to say. It would do well to have Gabrielle’s scroll first, or even to make Xena’s not so long, so that Gabrielle finishes the action through her experience, and the reader doesn’t feel that they’ve already heard it all. All of the installments focus on a certain time or Ep, and desire, that there is something here for everyone. It is an erotic, scintillating, and sometimes fantastically vulgar look into the XXX lives of our favorite heroines. Now if they could only translate these to film.... Zeen |
