How to Write a Typical Uber-Xena Fic by Invidere
Recommended by: Kamouraskan - 05.05.02
Classification: Satire/Non-Fic
Sex/Violence Content: PG-13
Length: Short, 3 pages - Complete
Anyone who doesn’t think that satire can be a sharp edged weapon has not read this essay. Though any bard that might be offended by it has no sense of humour. Lampooning the standard uber may not be an original concept, (possibly why I’ve done it myself) but the savagery and accuracy of this one puts it in a position all its own. How many bards and readers will cringe in recognition when they read the instructions: ‘don't know what to write? then write everything!’ and its hilarious detailing of exactly how this is usually done. What really amazed me was that the author captured all of the fine points of what separates the intelligent ubers from the feeble ones for me.
Basically I would assign this article to all budding uber writers as an instruction of exactly how NOT to write a story. To read, review and then perform exactly the opposite as is described here, and then maybe we’ll be back to challenging ourselves, and even these archtypes again.
