How to Get the Good Things by Sulkygeek
Recommended by: CJ - 08.03.03
Classification: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Sex/Violence Content: NC-17, AU But there are spoilers for series 1-7 of Buffy
Length: Novel - Complete
Though the show may be over we still have the fan fic to fall back on, and this little puppy is a good example of what is out there for fans to read. We get some twists and turns that we at times have all wondered about. This one will have you not knowing what is gonna happen at every turn. What if Faith and Wesley hooked up, what if Faith had saved Angel instead of being stabbed by Buffy. And of course we get some Buffy/Faith shipping in here as well, it’s part of why I read it. But you’ll be surprised at how it all works out through the course of the seasons. Oh and if you ask the author real nicely she’ll tell you about the alternate ending … but that is only if you couldn’t live with this ending. I’ve read both and they are equally as good, though of course even I have my preferences ;-)

Impulses of the Uncommon Girl by Jade
Recommended by: CJ - 03.02.03
Classification: BtVS
Sex/Violence Content: NC-17/semi-canon
Length: Novel length - Unfinished (sequel to ‘Sleeping with Ghosts’)
The thing that drew me into reading this one cause it’s slightly darker then your average Buffy tale. The author worked with the darkness that Faith and Willow had/have in them to produce this intriguing semi canon story. Combining them in a terrific leather clad team. And with the promise of Faiths return to both Btvs and Angel, this fanfic could well be a small insight into what Faith may be like after getting out of prison. You’ll be enticed with well based characters, good story build up and lots, lots more. Perhaps even some romance though at this point that is still up in the air…How will Faith react to Buffy’s presence while assisting Angel with fighting another big BAD!

Life in Baby Steps by Lowdeen
Recommended by: CJ - 29.10.02
Classification: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Sex/Violence Content: NC-17, Alt Universe
Length: Novel - Complete
The novelty of this fanfiction caught my attention. The authors shuffeling of characters into different positions and thereby creating an alternate universe is wel done and in a well written way keeps with the shows portrayel of them. So even if it's Faith being the original slayer and Buffy being a newly arrived girl in Sunny D, you do get the typical charictorizations that we know so well from the show. So if you are up for it and want to see a new twist go read this one. And for any Faith fans out there this is a must read. That and we get a visit from the white hats known as Oz, Larry and on this occasion Tara.

Slayers Journeys I (Gardens in the desert) by Vincent Fretin
Recommended by: CJ - 03.30.03
Classification: BtVS
Sex/Violence Content: PG-13/semi-canon to S7
Length: Novel - Complete
The first in a five story series brings us an interesting tale of slayer dreams, or are they? One of the most fun things to play around with, for a fanfic writer, are the shared slayer dreams Buffy and Faith had on the show. This writer has taken this a leap further, taking us to ancient Babylon in this first story. You’ll get great fights, Faithy coolness and kickass and some fun Buffyness as the slayers start to work together again in this even to them unexplainable adventure.

Slayers Journeys II (And a fire burned the night) by Vincent Fretin
Recommended by: CJ - 03.30.03
Classification: BtVS
Sex/Violence Content: PG-13/semi-canon to S7
Length: Novel - Incomplete
This second part in a series picks up right after both slayers return from their dreamscape adventure in Babylon. Both are still feeling the effects of their time spend together, though they don’t know if the adventure was real for both of them or just a sub-conscience hope to make peace between them. As the author switches us between the two slayers we learn more and more what their thoughts, emotions and feelings are for themselves and each other. Will we be treated to a new character whom was mentioned in the first part: Lucy?. My curiosity before reading went the way of where will the slayers meet in their dreams? If yours did as well do what I did and read this one, you’ll be treated to a thrilling new adventure. And that is all just the dream part of it all, what will happen whilst Buffy and Faith are awake and among the scoobies?

Three Sisters: Littermates - Acacia By Fannie Feazel
Recommended by: Kamouraskan - 04.27.02
Classification: Horror/Fantasy
Sex/Violence Content: Alt/PG-13
Length: Incomplete
One of the advantages of writing for Blurb is that I get to tell people about the stories that I am excited about. In this case two stories, or is it one? And that’s the least of the problems in trying to define it. It has elements of horror, realistic drama, humour, romance, detective mystery and fantasy; and yet somehow it all jells into one of the best stories you’ll find on line.
So my problem is, how do I describe it without confusing you? Well the prequel, for lack of a better word, is Littermates. What starts out as the childhood of a young female out of Cat People becomes a realistic and harrowing tale of abuse as the child loses the father who could have told her of her heritage, and is instead taken by her human mother into the custody of a child molester. In defence, the child develops multiple personalities. By crossing genres, the author makes what could have been a depressing story of a victim, and makes it one of survival and accomplishment. By mixing fantasy with domestic terror, she transcends both. The separate personalities are each appealing, and completely individual as they are forced to make their way in the world alone. Sort of. And none of this encapsulates the magic of the writing and the creation of the author.
‘Acacia’ is the sisters, years later when they have, wait for it, founded a detective agency. I know, it seems ludicrous, but honestly, it works. Certain of the sisters have a desire for human blood, and their method of culling the human pack is sometimes humorous, sometimes terrifying. So, even as you try to tell yourself that this is ridiculous, that you can’t really be engrossed in a mystery being unravelled by a multiple personality lesbian/straight vampire cat, you cannot stop reading. Or caring about each of the sisters. That’s because the story is well written, the characters and situations expertly drawn, and the plotline somehow marvellously clean and straight forward despite the twist and kinks. It manages to stay routed in reality, all while you know that you are reading something that defies any genre, and is unlike anything you’ve read before.
How should you read them? Both can be read independently, though each reflects upon the other just as any human’s adulthood is found within childhood. Possibly, they are best enjoyed by slipping back and forth between the books. Which is appropriate. A story like none you’ve ever come across should probably be read differently from any other as well.

(The) Wizard of Sunnydale by Padre
Recommended by: CJ - 03.30.03
Classification: BtVS
Sex/Violence Content: NC-17, Canon up to and including all of Season 6 of BtVS and Season 3 of AtS
Length: Novel - Incomplete
This has my evil side chuckling even though it ain’t all Dark. Making a perfect recipe for the reader this author picked a main dish of Willow flavoured with snuffs of Lila and a perfectly spiced side dish of Faith. We see a darker version of Willow which I like to see, seeing as there ain’t enough of that in the real show, and we get to see an interesting return of Faith to the story line, with some wicked revenge from our lovely red headed witch. One you wouldn’t easily suspect, but very, very viable in the Buffy verse. Now if you’re a bit squeamish you might want to take it easy in parts but I assure you if you love the darker sides touched with some lovely female feelings you’ll be sorry if you miss reading this one. I can’t wait to see more… And I bet neither will you.
